ALKA-SELTZER

In 1931 Miles Laboratories of Elkhart, Indiana, introduced a tablet containing sodium bicarbonate, monocalcium phosphate, aspirin, and citric acid which fizzled in water. The product, Alka-Seltzer, would sell in excess of 2.5 billion tablets a year by the 1970’s.
