>lex the circles thing has my head in circles...i guess that's the point looks like you gave it alot of thought! EXCELLENT!!! i'm of course printing it! uhmmm i didn't understand one part though (and that doesn't mean you have to or should change it...just means i'm open for discussion on this:
"For example, look at a mandelbrot set, or any fractal pattern. Pretty, isn't it? That picture is created using a mathamatical formula that creates waves of randomness. Now take any section of that pattern, and draw a smiley face, or any other ordered, structured design. Look at the picture again. The design seems out of place, doesn't it? It seems almost... random, hmmm?"
i'm confused because i think pictures of chaos (ie. the mandelbrot set and fractal patterns) ARE structured and in them we can visually SEE the paradox "chaos is predictable"....so maybe i'm not getting what your're talking about with the smilie face thing...help me out.

Oh, about the Circles thing: Let me rephrase that. Ahem.
"For example, take a bunch of crayons and shred them up over a piece of paper. Let the shards fall where they may. Then put another piece over it and press down with a hot iron (don't use the steam setting!). Pull the pages apart while the crayons are still soft, and you've got a mass of random colors all mushed together. Pretty, yes? Now take a white marker and draw a circle somewhere. Look at the paper again. That circle looks out of place, doesn't it?"
Hope that clears everything up (ha, ha). In other words, when you look at the big picture of chaos, a small imposition of order appears out of place.
Love,
Lex
