Coast Guard suspends search for missing pilot

The Coast Guard suspended the search Tuesday night for Jack Mcintosh, an Orlando resident, who had been missing since Monday when he reported to Miami Flight Services that his twin engine Beechcraft Super-18 airplane was on fire about 47 miles northwest of Freeport, Bahamas.

During the two day search the Coast Guard utilized six different aircraft to search a total of 1,115 square miles, which is about the size of the state of Rhode Island.

Tuesday, an HH-65 Dolphin helicopter and an HU-25 Falcon jet from Air Station Miami searched the area locating miscellaneous debris. The Cutter Maui was diverted to the scene to assist with the recovery and identification of the debris. The Maui recovered a cooler lid believed to be from the aircraft.

A checkbook from the missing pilot was recovered by the pleasure craft Way to Go.

The Cutter Maui is a 110-foot patrol boat from Miami Fl
