why a pillar of salt ?? this has always struck me as a bit odd, and i've always wondered what it meant. the jesuits told us that there are strange salt formations near the sites of those cities, and that this story in genesis was meant to explain how they got there. hmm. that's not very interesting, is it ?? johncoffeejohn believes that the human race has discovered nuclear weaponry previously in our history and that sodom and gomorrah were destroyed by an atomic blast. the hebrew word for "salt" that is used in this passage, he claims, is damn close to the word for "vapor". see ?? see that !! a pillar of vapor !! sounds like the bomb, don't it ?? johncoffeejohn's other observation is that, when hiroshima was bombed, there were instances in which people who were vaporized left a mark on the ground below them, or on a building behind them. it's called a "radiation shadow". i guess it's a white-ish film -- appearing somewhat like salt. so, see -- we just don't know, do we ?? i mean, why should we assume we (as a race) haven't come up with some of this crazy technological shit before, and then fucked everything up so bad that we didn't even leave a trace. (or, at least, what we now would recognize as a trace.) or it could've been a comet. those things are dangerous, you know. johncoffeejohn also seems to think this sort of disaster is going to happen again soon, like around the millennium. hmm. that's a tough one, ain't it ?? i mean, what can you do either way ?? have a good time until then, I guess.... and eat lots of salty food !!
